On board
We have a number of projects in progress on board our ships to reduce environmental impact
- We perform selective waste collection on board through our agreement with Ecoembes, the environmental organisation which coordinates packaging recycling in Spain, with the aim of making us the first shipping line in Spain to recycle 100% of the plastic packaging, cans and cartons that we generate. In 2019 we staged a scheme to pilot this system on one of our ships, in which we managed to get 74% of waste properly disposed of for recycling. The plan is to implement this on a further six ships.
- Circular economy. We have recycled 85,000 plastic containers to make the furniture for the terraces on two ships.
- Carbon footprint. We have presented the European Lean&Green platform with a plan to reduce our emissions by 20% in 2022. We are working on a project to offset our emissions through carbon trading credits intended to protect expanses of Posidonia seagrass, as we believe that we should give something back to the environment we operate in: the sea.
- Electrical energy. We are committed to electrical energy, offering charging points on a number of ships and at ferry terminals, as well as solar panels installed on the eco fast ferries and electric vehicles used for operations at a number of ports.
- Biodegradable tableware. Our entire fleet uses disposable tableware made from cellulose and biodegradable materials in the on-board self-service restaurants and cafeterias.
