The Baleària Foundation works with nearly twenty universities, scientific bodies and environmental organisations in the regions where it operates.

Promoting research into marine and terrestrial flora and fauna, conserving ecosystems and raising awareness are the goals of the various NGOs, associations and universities that work with the Baleària Foundation.

Through agreements signed with these organisations, Baleària vessels become platforms from which observations can be carried out or equipment transported. The Foundation also takes part in educational and outreach activities with a shared objective: to join forces and take action for the environment.

Technicians and scientists from the Government of Catalonia, the Pelagicus Association and the University of Cádiz carry out observations during crossings to monitor and study cetaceans, birds and other animals. The Foundation also participates in environmental education projects such as Expedicionaria (in partnership with Bioeduca).

Ricard Pérez, manager of the Baleària Foundation, says that “it is one of our most important programmes, as it has enabled hundreds of pupils to learn to appreciate the importance of the natural environment”.

In terms of outreach, the shipping company supports a project on plastic waste with GEN-GOB, an environmental organisation based in the Pityusic Islands. Another key form of support for these organisations is facilitating transport. This benefits institutions such as the Universitat de les Illes Balears and its terrestrial flora and fauna research team, experts from IMEDEA-CSIC, and the transport of injured turtles to Palma Aquarium.

Ricard Pérez notes on behalf of the Foundation that “by joining forces, we can all help preserve the environment”.
