At Baleària, we have been committed for years to eco-efficient and sustainable shipping that helps protect the environment while offering a competitive service. We are a global leader in the energy transition, with a decarbonization strategy that includes several measures. In 2025, we reduced our CO₂ emissions per nautical mile sailed by 2.85% compared to 2024.

Sustainable fuel

We have made significant investments in a fleet with dual engines, a versatile technology that allows us to operate with different, more sustainable fuels. Since 2019, we have regularly used natural gas, which has allowed us to improve our eco-efficiency ratio. In 2025, we introduced biogas on some routes, enabling us to operate with net-zero emissions on part of our fleet. In addition, at Baleària we are researching the use of promising alternative energies with zero-emission potential, such as green hydrogen and synthetic fuels.

Electric energy

Since 2023, we have had two electric vessels, Cap de Barbaria and Rusadir, which represent a remarkable milestone in our journey toward cleaner and more responsible maritime transport. In addition, we will build two 100% electric-powered catamarans that will complete the entire journey with zero CO₂ emissions to operate the first green corridor between Spain and Morocco on the Tarifa-Tanger City route.

Environmental Commitment

 

We collaborate with organizations dedicated to improving the environment and promoting the sustainable development of territories.

 

Through the Baleària Foundation, we work with organizations, universities, and scientific projects related to the environment, making our fleet available to scientific teams from associations that carry out marine species sightings from our vessels, among other initiatives.
