Essential for Formentera

This ship guarantees the transport of essential goods and products to Formentera, with a design that ensures its operability in all conditions, in addition to streamlining operations and facilitating port manoeuvres.

The pleasure of traveling

The ship has a large outdoor chill out area, where passengers can relax in comfort and enjoy their natural surroundings during the crossing. This space is furnished with designer sofas and hammocks, marquees and a large bar in the centre.

Zero emissions

It represents a substantial improvement in air quality in port compared to the ships currently operating on the route, as well as being the most fuel-efficient and low-emissions vessel in the company's fleet.

It is equipped to become, in the future, a test laboratory for the use of green hydrogen. A pilot project that will allow the shipping company to learn about this decarbonised energy with a view to using it in the medium term.

Electric ‘ferry’

The Cap de Barbaria is the first electric ferry in Spain for passengers and cargo with zero pollutant emissions during port approaches and stays.
During all phases of approach, manoeuvring, mooring and port stays, the ship emits no polluting gases into the atmosphere, substantially improving air quality with respect to the ships currently operating on the route.

Electric propulsion that guarantees zero emissions in the port area.
Energy storage system, with state-of-the-art lithium batteries (12 h autonomy in port).
Cold ironing shore connection integrated into the ship's smart electrical management system.
Automation plant connected to the smart electrical management system, ensuring optimum efficiency during the voyage.
Electric azimuth thrusters (2 x 1,150 kW) that optimise the vessel's manoeuvrability.
Double-ended design (bow and stern operation) to optimise the efficiency of the entire operating cycle.
Lift between the passenger and garaging areas.
100% connectivity, with high-speed WiMax technology.

Formentera's iconic natural heritage

Baleària has chosen to name this innovative ferry after one of Formentera's most emblematic places, the fascinating protected natural site of Cap de Barbaria: the impressive cliff of Cap de Barbaria, over 100 metres high and crowned by a lighthouse bearing the same name, is the southernmost geographical point of the Balearic Islands and the closest in Europe to Algiers.

Andrea Romero Escandell - godmother of the 'ferry'

The boat has been endorsed by the young Formentera athlete Andrea Romero Escandell, one of the great promises of national athletics. At the start of her career, the runner was part of the Grup Esportiu Espalmador de Formentera. She is currently competing with the club Juventud Atlética Elche and has recently been crowned national champion in the under-23 category for the 5,000 m.
