Baleària has launched Easy Pass, a digital system designed to simplify passenger boarding on the route between Ibiza and Formentera. This new solution improves the customer travel experience, particularly for residents who use the route frequently, through a quick and easy process: they only need to show a QR code when boarding, without having to book or visit the ticket office beforehand.
Passengers can access the new Easy Pass feature through the Baleària app, where they can generate a QR code with a single click. This allows them to board directly without a booking —always subject to seat availability—, pay at the time of boarding and automatically validate their resident discount.
To use the system, users must register with Baleària Club, upload their proof of residency and add a payment method. The service also allows users to share the QR code with family or friends and makes it easier for companies to manage employee travel.
“With Easy Pass, we have created an innovative product that directly improves the experience of our most loyal customers, who only need their mobile phone to travel, pay and prove their residency,” explains Manuel Vieira, Baleària's Ecommerce Director. He highlights that payment is made at the time of boarding, with no advance payment required. “Customers do not need to visit the ticket office or make a booking; they simply board,” Vieira explains. He also notes that “the solution eliminates the use of paper, in line with the shipping company's commitment to sustainability”. Finally, Vieira says that during the first few weeks of operation, “customers have responded positively to the Easy Pass process because it is practical and straightforward”.
Baleària plans to add new features, including vehicle boarding, and extend the system to other routes with similar characteristics: short, high-frequency crossings used by large numbers of regular resident passengers, such as Algeciras–Ceuta and Alcúdia–Ciutadella.
