Baleària is taking part in an experience included in the 50th Sea Week, giving primary school pupils from ten schools in Ibiza the chance to enjoy an unforgettable day on the neighbouring island.
Until the end of March, around 250 Year 5 pupils from eleven schools in Ibiza travel to Formentera to discover its surroundings and natural environment as part of the 50th Sea Week, a programme of activities organised by the Sant Antoni Yacht Club. The journey to Formentera takes place on one of Baleària's eco fast ferries, with an environmental educator on board to lead the educational activities.

“For Baleària, it is a pleasure to be part of a project for another year with which we share the same goal: raising awareness among younger generations of the importance of protecting the marine environment, the setting in which we operate. We also carry out environmental education and outreach work on Formentera's flora, fauna and emblematic places.”, explains Erica Solis, Baleària's commercial manager in the Pityusic Islands. For next year's edition, Baleària will also add an extra attraction to the excursions to Formentera, as they will be able to travel on board the Cap de Barbaria, Spain's first ferry to be fully electric, with no polluting emissions when approaching or staying in port.

When they arrive at La Savina port, a bus is waiting to take them to La Mola lighthouse, where they stop for lunch and observe the vegetation typical of the cliffs and, above all, the birds that are abundant in the area, using binoculars. Environmental educator Carmen Castelló explains that they aim to visit different areas “because the diversity of fauna and flora in this part of Formentera is different from that found in the dunes or wetlands”. The aim of the activity, she explains, “is for it to be an experience, for them to do something different and to get closer to the marine environment”.
The visit continues at La Mola lighthouse, which has been converted into an interpretation centre for maritime signals and everything connected with the sea. The pace is non-stop, and it is then time to discover the fauna and flora of Ses Illetes beach, where binoculars once again take centre stage for birdwatching. Before boarding the boat back to Ibiza, the pupils can enjoy some free time on the neighbouring island.

Sea Week
Pupils taking part in this year's edition enjoy an intensive week of activities in which they discover the secrets of navigation, biodiversity and the ecosystems of Portmany Bay and the Pityusic coast. They will also take part in the special 50th Anniversary edition of Marsapiens, which will assess the knowledge the pupils have acquired during the activities.
