Between two paradises and a thousand sensations

Ibiza and Formentera are idyllic islands that everyone has heard of at some point. They are two must-visit destinations for lovers of crystal-clear beaches and charming coves.

A short break is all you need to visit both islands aboard the new electric ferry Cap de Barbaria, which operates between the islands and lets you enjoy a travel experience that is as environmentally sustainable as possible.

There are two clear types of passenger on this route: those who make the crossing regularly for work, and those who come to enjoy the Pityusic Islands. By mid-afternoon, it is easy to see this mix of passengers at the Ribera quay on the larger island before boarding. This vessel has been designed to meet the needs of both groups.

As you step on board, time seems to stand still thanks to the striking silence of the engines on this new vessel, which sails through the heart of the Ibiza and Formentera natural park. You board and, before you have even decided where you would like to sit for the crossing, the ship has slipped away from the port almost without you noticing. No noise, no vibrations and no polluting emissions. It is such an unusual experience that you may find yourself wondering whether the ship is moving or everything around you is.

The first deck is the calmest, with tables, sofas and outdoor seating, plus an indoor café in the centre. You could say this area is aimed at people who make the journey out of necessity day after day. Here you can work, or simply sit back and relax after a long day as the countless islets between the two islands drift past. Together with the sea breeze and the sound of the waves against the hull, it is a space that helps you switch off from the world.

The second deck is for those who really know how to enjoy themselves. For visitors who have come to spend a few days in these Mediterranean paradises and make the most of every second. The vessel is also designed for anyone who wants the journey itself to be part of the fun. This chill-out-style deck features green areas, comfortable sun loungers, designer sofas made for relaxing and music that is perfect for spending time with friends.

To complete the experience, there is a bar in the central area where you can order whatever you fancy. Standing, sitting or dancing, you can enjoy a soft drink, a mixed drink or a beer. And if you feel like a bite to eat, you can also have a small snack to go with your drink.

And then there is the sunset in the middle of the sea, with orange and reddish tones as the sun disappears behind Es Vedrà. It is a one-hour crossing that feels far too short for all the sensations the electric ferry Cap de Barbaria has to offer and for exploring every corner of the vessel. A perfect journey that makes you wish the sunset could go on forever, with friends, drinks and laughter.
