Waking up from a nap next to my dog while sailing across the Mediterranean was one of those moments from this summer that I will never forget. That image has become a lasting memory thanks to Baleària, the cabin shipping company.
The first time I considered travelling by boat with my dog to Mallorca, I was a little nervous. After experiencing it, I can only say: chapeau Baleària.
For this trip, we chose a pet-friendly cabin. I recommend this option a thousand per cent: I travelled like a queen and my dog like a maharani right beside me. It gave me great peace of mind to leave her somewhere safe while I enjoyed dinner and a beer watching the sunset.

In the cabin I found everything I needed for a perfect journey (bed, bathroom, shower and bottles of water), as well as everything that makes my dog happy enough to sleep soundly: a water bowl, food bowl, absorbent pad and peace and quiet.
What was it like boarding the ferry with my car?
Travelling to Mallorca in my own car and exploring the island with it was one of the best ideas of the trip. It reminded me so much of childhood family holidays: car packed to the roof + parasol + suitcases + every possible 'just in case' item + the classic blue cool box + things you do not even know what they are for and will never use.
That said, boarding the car on the Baleària ferry was very straightforward. We arrived at the boarding area 90 minutes before departure with all the documents (insurance and vehicle papers + driver's ID + vehicle boarding pass).
If you are travelling with other people as well as the dog, as we were, you have to split up to board: one person takes care of the car and I took the dog. Only the driver is allowed to board with the vehicle; all other passengers must board through the passenger area. An hour later, the three of us met up again on board to begin the journey together.

What was it like boarding and disembarking the ferry with my dog?
Everyone travelling with pets has to wait for the final group to board and disembark. This prevents the animals from becoming overwhelmed by people, children and cars… (the owners are probably more nervous than they are). At both stages of the journey, pets must of course be kept on a lead.
If I had to describe boarding and disembarking in one word, it would be calm. Shiba was as happy as could be.
With our vehicle snoozing away in the ship's garage and our dog snoring in the cabin, we went up on deck and enjoyed the sailing and the sunset. Thank you, Baleària, we'll see you on board again!
