Camper trip to Morocco from Almería

Por Van Travellers

Faro-tres-forcasbaja

We had been wanting for some time to explore and lose ourselves in Morocco’s diversity, from its beaches and deserts to its history-filled cities and mountain ranges. So we weighed up the options and chose the city that would welcome us to the African country. We wanted to begin our road trip through Morocco somewhere away from the tourist crowds, which is why we decided to take our camper on board in Almería and arrive in Nador.

Nador is a coastal city that is still largely unknown to tourists. It lies in the eastern Rif region, just 15 kilometres south of Melilla. If you are curious or thinking of following in our footsteps on your next holiday, this article contains a guide to places to visit both in the city of Nador and in the surrounding area.

Why travel to Morocco with Baleària?

For us, it is essential to travel with a ferry company that gives us a sense of safety and confidence from the moment we make the booking until we reach our destination.

The first time we travelled with Baleària we took our van on board in Dénia and disembarked in Ibiza. The way the crew treated us and how easy it was to make the booking meant that this time we did not even consider other options and chose to travel again on a smart ship operated by the leading ferry company for transporting vehicles, passengers and freight between mainland Spain and Morocco.

Nápoles ferry

Nápoles is the name of the ferry we travelled on, which covers the 176 kilometres of sea separating Almería from Nador. It was the first vessel that Baleària re-engined to run on natural gas in 2019 and it is a smart ship with all the on-board services you need to enjoy the crossing, including:

  • WhatsApp and Internet

You can send text messages via WhatsApp free of charge throughout the crossing, even if you have no mobile coverage. In addition, if you need an Internet connection, you can purchase passes that allow you to stay connected throughout the journey.

  • Cinema and digital entertainment

The digital entertainment platform gives you access to a wide range of films, books, newspapers and series. Best of all, you can use it from your mobile! As we had a cabin, we watched a film on the television.

  • QR access

You can board and access your cabin using a QR code downloaded to your mobile, with no need to carry a printed ticket. This is very convenient and makes boarding simple and quick!

  • Pet-friendly cabin

Many passengers travel with their pets, and on the Nápoles that is possible. As well as Calm Houses with video surveillance so that you can see your pet throughout the journey, there are cabins reserved exclusively for passengers travelling with a dog or cat.

There is also a gift shop, a children’s play area if you are travelling as a family, a restaurant and an indoor café open all year round with a varied menu.

We also experienced a spectacular moment on board the ferry that we will always remember: watching the sunset in the middle of the Mediterranean. It was beautiful!

It is a real luxury to have a ferry company like Baleària for travelling with our vehicles to different destinations on mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, Gran Canaria, Algeria and Morocco. Without a doubt, we will travel with them again when we return to Spain from North Africa.
