Through my work with the Port de Barcelona on meteorological and environmental matters, I have gained an in-depth understanding of the project to introduce liquefied natural gas (LNG) across Baleària's fleet.

One of its most modern and sustainable vessels is the Hypatia de Alejandría ferry. The first thing you notice when you step on board is the company's commitment to sustainability, showcased through its Rumbo Verde campaign.

...

During an interview on GreenMeteoMauri, the programme I present on Catalunya Ràdio, the company's president, Adolfo Utor, said that every vessel in the fleet would be powered by gas before 2025. By the end of the year, a total of nine vessels will be sailing with this cleaner source of energy. In addition, March will see the arrival of the world's first fast ferry with dual-fuel gas engines, the Eleanor Roosevelt. Excellent news.

I walk over to one of the counters and see bags of crisps, snacks and Fairtrade chocolate...

The coffee served on board Baleària helps ensure that every purchase improves the lives of the people who make a living from growing it

We sit down for lunch in the restaurant, as the range of food, the comfortable surroundings and the price per person make it a competitive option. I take a look at the drinks: an individual bottle of wine and a glass bottle of water. Glass is easy to recycle, up to around 1,000 times.

After lunch, while getting some fresh air on deck, I read that Baleària works with scientists on board on campaigns to observe a range of species . Overall, the outcome is very positive. The company follows many environmentally beneficial practices, although there are still other areas where it can improve. Just like the person writing this article.
