Spanish shipping company Baleària is continuing to diversify its connections to Algeria with a new route from the Port of Barcelona to Algiers, the company’s first international service from the Catalan capital’s port. This passenger and freight service begins operating today, with departures from Barcelona on Mondays at 13:00 and from Algiers on Saturdays at 14:00.
The company currently offers four routes to Algeria: in addition to the new Barcelona-Algiers connection, Baleària operates one weekly sailing between Valencia and Algiers and another from the Valencian port to Oran or Mostaganem, depending on the week. In total, three weekly sailings are offered between Spain and Algeria.
Baleària’s managing director, Georges Bassoul, highlighted the shipping company’s aim to consolidate its routes with the country: “Algeria is a strategic market for Baleària, where we see growth prospects thanks to a high-quality offering tailored to the needs of passengers and logistics companies alike.” Bassoul also noted that this expansion of services “will improve maritime connectivity between Spain and Algeria through reliable and punctual services”.
Baleària has operated services to Algeria since 2016, when it launched its first Valencia-Mostaganem route. Last October, it began operating between Valencia and Algiers, followed in December by the Valencia-Oran route.
The shipping company’s ferry assigned to these routes offers cabin and seat accommodation, as well as services including a café, shop and restaurant. Baleària also provides services tailored to the needs of passengers on these routes: passenger service staff speak Arabic and French, the bars and restaurants serve halal food, and prayer rooms are available. The company also offers telephone assistance in Arabic to answer passengers’ enquiries.
Baleària, which has operated in Barcelona since 2003, runs daily connections to Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.
